Inspired by her travels, each piece in Alison Price’s Purely Textural Map Points series illustrates a different adventure and a new part of the globe experienced. These deeply-textured snapshots serve as mementos: From the tiny chartreuse pillows of moss growing near a fallen tree in her backyard to the early sun illuminating the rugged shoreline of Lake Superior, the Carrizozo Lava Fields in New Mexico, exquisite stained glass in Barcelona, a wet stone sidewalk in Porto, the dancing lights of New York City, sea mist in the Pacific Northwest, and the wild blooms of the Caribbean.
To capture these beautiful, fleeting moments, Price gravitates to organic and mineral structures. She renders them onto canvas using paint and a shapable mixture she developed while in graduate school. The mixture is combined with metal leaf, shattered and tumbled glass, handmade paper, and found metal.
With an array of rich colors and inviting textures, Price’s Purely Textural Map Points series evokes memories from far-flung destinations through multiple senses.
