Freya is the University of Minnesota Solar Vehicle Project’s (UMNSVP) 14th solar electric vehicle. Designed to be the team’s first 4 passenger car, Freya has traversed over 2,500 miles across the United States in two different races. During the 2021 American Solar Challenge (ASC) along the Santa Fe historic trail, Freya earned the team a second-place finish as well as accolades such as the Spirit of the Event Award and the Safety Award. Returning again to ASC in 2022 to follow the Oregon Trail, Freya had an incredibly reliable race, setting the pace and carrying the team into a historic first-place finish.
UMNSVP is a student group that designs, builds, finances, and races solar electric vehicles from the ground up. The group was founded in 1990 and has since completed 15 cars, competed in over 30 racing events, and placed top 2 in their class for over 15 of those events. Their cars have traveled to events across the United States as well as Australia, Canada, Japan, and Taiwan. To learn more, visit UMNSVP.org.
