Landscape photographs taken ''from the bee's perspective'' are combined with encaustic paint and oil to create images that celebrate the region's unique pollinator population.
Artist Jodi Reeb begins with photographs of pollinator-friendly plants from the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Bloomington, just South of MSP Airport. The photos are printed on tissue paper and textured with encaustic paint composed of 85 percent natural beeswax.
This unique process yields mixed-media works that have the luminosity of beeswax while maintaining the graphic integrity of photography.
Jodi Reeb lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has been creating nature-based art and sculpture for over 26 years as a full-time artist. Her work has been shown nationally receiving numerous awards and is in many private and corporate collections nationally.
Reeb has been a co-op member at the Traffic Zone Center for Visual Art for 16 years where she creates her mixed-media paintings and sculptures. She is a GOLDEN Paint Artist Educator as well as an R & F Paint Core Artist teaching monthly workshops in her studio in the mediums of acrylic and encaustic paint. She teaches encaustic painting workshops locally and internationally.
