Excerpt from artist’s Impact Statement: "I chose to draw [Taussig] holding an infant to symbolize her impact in the field of pediatric cardiology (which she founded) and to make her feel more grandmotherly instead of making her look just like a doctor, since she cared about saving thousands of lives she had success in saving and not just about herself, which is also the reason why the awards are drawn nearer to the bottom (her priority was helping others though cardiology)."
