Excerpt from artist’s Impact Statement: "The central focus of the artwork is Matylda herself holding a Jewish child in her arms, standing strong and resilient. Her facial expression shows both strength and vulnerability, which, although not directly visible, reflects the inner turmoil of someone burdened with a great amount of responsibility. Through this intricate portrayal of her, I sought to symbolize her commitment to protecting and nurturing those in need, even in the face of great danger."
