Portrait of William Nicholson by his brother-in-law and artistic partner Pryde. Together they called themselves The Beggarstaff Brothers, who collaborated on groundbreaking poster designs between 1894 and 1899. Their “revolutionary designs presented the image in its starkest form: the background is stripped bare of unnecessary detail and the fullest use is made of the silhouette.” Nicholson moved on to become one of the greatest British artists, feted for his woodcuts of the great and good, Queen Victoria among them.
Published by "The Studio" in December 1897, signed in plate with blindstamp below. On 9" x 12" piece, matted to 11" x 14".
