The title translates as "Dreaming of Yves" with the young muse dreaming in Klein "Blue Monochromes", seemingly after a passionate encounter with the young French master. She has dozed off reading the newspaper and the headline translates as "Picasso the cuckold: "I accuse Klein!". The evidence is clear for all to see, with Yves caught "blue handed" as it were...
Three artistic "scandals" are involved here. Painted in 1932 by a 50-year-old Picasso, the woman is his mistress Marie-Thérèse Walter, aged only 22 at the time. The original was owned (and notoriously damaged) by casino magnate Steve Wynn and became one of the most expensive paintings ever sold. Finally, Klein's "Monochromes" in IKB were controversial from their first unveiling in 1956. The photograph of Yves Klein in "Le Monde" was taken in Berlin in 1960 by Charles Wilp.
Beautiful work in a black frame. Picasso signed and dated his original work bottom left, KASM has signed and dated, with trademark saltire monogram, bottom right.
