Superb historic Thompson image of the Hong Kong waterfront in 1869, featuring Wardley House at the far left. This was the newly formed HSBC's first head office, literally the "home" of the bank with foreign staff and management living above the street level banking hall. Situated at number 1 Queen's Road, it is still the site of the bank's headquarters today.
On the far right is the Jardine, Matheson & Co. headquarters with a tree to it's left marking the start of Pedder Street. On the other side of Pedder Street is what was Jardines rival Dent & Co, but the company had foundered 2 years earlier.
From scan of the original 1869 glass negative, printed later. Image size approx 8" x 6" on double weight paper, matted and in a black wooden frame.
