In a busy Hong Kong street, below signs for a beauty parlor and outside the enigmatically named "Jimmy Saloon", two locals peruse the latest issue of the "China Traders" newspaper. It is September 1949 and the headlines declare that all southern China is in the hands of the Communists and in Peking the Peoples Consultative Assembly has issued a new Constitution.
This genuine vintage photogravure was printed in Paris in 1955 and has the warm tones and fantastic tonal range of a platinum print. A 25 x 17 cm print, archivally mounted on 100% acid-free board and in a 11"x14" black frame.
