When I was younger, I would go to Greenport on the north fork of Long Island and visit the Fiedler Gallery. Rich Fiedler was a well known Greenporter artist who owned his own gallery and created paintings inspired by the seaside maritime village and local landscape. Years later, when I got the confidence and developed a collection of my own work, I presented my portfolio to him in hopes that he would invite me to show it in his gallery. He loved my work, and offered me a wall in his 2nd floor gallery to exhibit my work! What an honor. One of Rich’s series’ of paintings were still life’s of the rocky beaches of the north shore. I always found these interesting and wanted to paint my own one day. So here you have it, my “Homage to Fiedler.” This painting is quite a bit bigger than what Rich used to do, as I have been trying to scale up my work. It also allows for more interesting texture and detail.
