Image is a belted kingfisher from California, printed with two blocks, black and grey, in different shades of sumi ink.
This is an unnumbered series of artist proofs, extra pages printed during the creation of the six page leporello book Bird Twins. The paper is made in Echizen, Japan, with Japanese kozo fiber, purchased from Hiromi Paper in 2001. The woodcuts are based on photographs taken by the artist in Santa Cruz, California. The images were adjusted and transferred to blocks of shina plywood for cutting, then each block printed twice on a sheet.
