John MacBride: Born in Mayo in 1865. After training as a doctor, MacBride abandoned his career in favour of work as a chemist. He travelled to America in 1896 to promote the cause of the IRB and from there travelled to South Africa where he raised the Irish Transvaal Brigade during the Second Boer War. Mac Bride married the Irish Nationalist Maud Gonne in 1903.

He was positioned at Jacobs factory alongside Thomas MacDonagh. He was executed on 30 April 1916.
