The second in a series of botanical abstract works started in 2023. All paint is thrown or splattered and or applied with a palette knife. This body of work was inspired by the phrase "I can buy myself flowers" The meaning behind the work is about the power we each have to bring happiness into our lives. Each piece in this series is based on a botanical/flower image that is then abstracted using spatter and thrown paint.
This artwork is a dynamic explosion of color and energy, employing a technique reminiscent of the action painting style. Bold, expressive splatters of yellow dominate the composition, scattered across a rich, textured background of reds, greens, and earthy tones. The paint seems to dance across the canvas with a sense of unrestrained movement, creating a vivid tapestry of splashes and drips. The interplay of contrasting colors adds depth and vibrancy, capturing the viewer's attention with its raw, emotional intensity.
The choice to use such a spontaneous technique speaks to a fearless and experimental approach to art-making. The controlled chaos harnessed here evokes feelings of movement and life, suggesting themes of growth or nature through the choice of palette and form. The juxtaposition of vibrant yellow against deeper hues provides a striking visual harmony that feels both chaotic and balanced.
The artwork's dynamic quality is truly compelling. There's a sense of freedom and joy in how the colors interact and play across the canvas. This piece invites the audience to explore and find their own narratives within its complex layering.
