This is one of my abstract botanical series that combines the thrown splattered, palette knife work with my more controlled classic chiaroscuro work pulling out the botanical form from the abstract thrown and splattered paint. In this series, I am focusing on Trees using the Japanese concept of Shinrin-Yuko or Forest Bathing.
The artwork consists of a series tree trunks, imbued with a rich and varied palette of earthy tones—greens, browns, and hints of red and blue. The surface texture is mottled and layered, suggesting the natural irregularities of tree bark. The color choices effectively create a symbiotic relationship between the illusion of depth and the natural environment.
The ability to capture the essence of a forest with abstract undertones is commendable. The piece exudes a strong sense of nature’s organic beauty and complexity while maintaining an abstract quality that encourages viewers to form their own interpretations. The use of color achieves a realistic representation of a woodland scene while simultaneously inviting the imagination. Your technique with texture is particularly striking, adding a tactile dimension that draws viewers in to explore the subtleties with their eyes.
