This portrait, inspired by Frida Khalo's self-portraits, originally depicted a woman holding a grenade like a spray can. The Hebrew lettering in her crown says ART is the answer, as she symbolically chooses to turn the violence and pain within into an explosion artistic expression instead of destruction. Her earing is showing the pain and bleeding that she decides to pour onto the canvas. The grenade was rejected for the show where the piece was going to be exhibited, so I chose to still show the piece and turn the grenade into a dove. I liked the symbolic gesture of applying the message of my painting directly to its final transformation.
