'Moonlit Sunflower Field' was inspired by a road trip returning home from our annual family beach trip in Litchfield, South Carolina. We were sunburned, sad that it was over, and tired from a week full of swimming and family activities. Our car was full of sand and shells, wet bathingsuits, and dirty laundry. We pulled up to a Country Store, you know, the kind that sells jams and jellies, candied pecans, and boiled peanuts. My eye caught on a gorgeous sight just beyond the store of a field full of sunflowers. They were in different stages of life. Some had lost most of it's petals and were slumped towards the earth. Others were reaching toward the sky, with sturdy stalks and golden petals. The light was fading. The full moon was rising. I knew I would paint this field and try to capture the warm feel of summer ending.
