A Profusion of Wild Flowers. Inspired by flower meadows growing wild and free, drenched in color, reminiscent of magical days of our youth. Sunshine, warmth, and summertime are felt in my latest paintings.
This summer we spent time in Colorado with family. If you’ve ever been to Colorado in the summer you’ll know how prolific the wild flowers grow! Amazing bursts of color, growing wild, with the magnificent mountains as the backdrop inspired me.
Larkspur, queen Anne’s lace, thistle, daisies, fairy trumpets, red clover, buttercups, dandelions, all find their way into my latest work, literally. I picked the flowers, pressed and dried them, then carefully packed them in my suitcase.
In several pieces of my “Growing Wild” collection, I embedded a small dried flower or two. This has been my practice for years now. Finding treasures while spending time outdoors and adding them to my paintings. Bark, feathers, ferns, petals, straw, moss and leaves have all found their way in my paintings. My five-year-old daughter is my best nature treasure collector. Occasionally, a patron will provide the nature treasure that I weave into their painting.
Embedding nature treasures in my work is my small way of capturing and preserving all the delight, wonder, and gratitude I experience when outdoors.
