Image "This Used to Be the City" transferred to "Breathing Color" and "Elegance" paper by Digital Grange Studio, Petaluma, CA.
Joni Mitchell's song "Paved Paradise" provided the inspiration for my visual interpretation - in reverse. Instead of "paving over paradise," as in the lyrics, my painting titled "This Used to Be the City" represents the pavement returned to its natural state of a lush green landscape. A high resolution image of the painting was transferred to "Breathing Color" paper, scrunched onto a canvas using non-toxic, water-based medium (Aquavar) creating a 3D topography. Sculpted on to 40" x 60" canvas.
I like to expand the format of my painting compositions. The image is transferred to fabric or paper (Out-sourced) and shaped into a 3D "painting." My 2D paintings are typically CoLorFields so they make lovely fabric designs. The patterns are not what would be found in a traditional fabric store (that's why they are special). I am a bit of a drama queen with color - sometimes monochromatic but more often jewel-toned color recipes. Sometimes I use ordinary polyester fabric (bought from a fabric store) - or high quality paper - squish it around on a canvas until it dries and adheres in interesting shapes.
