ColorField painted ca. 2009. Some of the canvas remains white and untouched. The jewel-tones are prominent. i was not following any particular form or theme, although geometric shapes have over the years become a recurring composition in my painting. i simply enjoyed the process of applying pigment (oil) to the canvas, mixing a little (very little) directly on the canvas vice on the palette before applying. This is one of the pieces that i had transferred to sheer fabric and used in fabric designs, outdoor installations and later in my sculpted paintings. This composition was used to create Silk Scarf II (pictured), Silk Scarf on Fence (pictured).
When I paint a masterpiece, I like to expand the format and composition. The image is transferred to fabric or paper (out-sourced) and shaped into a 3D "painting." My 2D paintings are typically CoLorFields so they make lovely fabric designs. The patterns are not what would be found in a traditional fabric store (that's why they are special). I am a bit of a drama queen with color - sometimes monochromatic but more often jewel-toned color recipes.
