I painted a peacock. I saw a silhouette of a peacock on a vase and thought what a beautiful shape these special birds are. How sovereign looking with its crown of dainty feathers. I developed a composition inspired my some moorish wallpaper which I stuck along the top. I remembered when I was doing this the peacock feathers that my grandmother kept in a vase on her mantelpiece. I spent hours examining the patterns on the feathers. It seemed decadent and romantic and hinting at a side of my grandmother which seemed hidden behind her housecoat. cigarette smoke and constant series of domestic chores which seemed to be her life. She was a somewhat closet painter as despite a room full of filled canvases I'm not sure I actually ever saw her paint. Anyway I have a remote idea that she might have liked this painting. I added some gold leaf to record some of the shimmer shimmer of those wonderful feathers. This painting is for sale for £470 if you are interested in purchasing this for your wall. It is just over A3 size and comes with a lovely walnut vintage frame.
