Not only is this piece a change in medium and style for me, the medium itself has gone thru changes. This style is much less labor intensive, which was a necessity for me following shoulder surgery. So I changed from welded steel to etched copper. The process of etching puts the copper through a change…a chemical ‘change’ process dissolves parts of the copper surface, leaving behind the desired design. The wood also goes through a change…applying a flame to the surface of the wood changes it … it burns it and leaved a beautiful charred finish.
In all the ‘change’ above … medium, style, copper, and wood … the change has brought about new and unexpected results.
