Utah legends describe red-haired giants living in mountain caves in the long ago. Modern times have perhaps seen glimpses of evidence. In 1891, an article in the New York Sun reported the discovery of an 8-foot-6-inch tall skeleton in Utah by workers digging an irrigation ditch. The skull was 8 feet underground, and the skeleton in an oddly upright position. Alongside the giant, workers found stone tools, pottery and copper items.
