On St. John's Eve, three friends seek fern seeds for love magic in the deep forests of Manchester. A skull, a spell, and a spirit's riddle mark the ritual. But Bangle shatters the spell with an accidental blessing, and when "strange and horrid forms appeared from the thickets, the men ran as if sped on the wind."
