This painting of the architecture inside Gloucester Cathedral was made during the year I was artist-in-residence there. I painted it from life moving to different places in the cathedral including the cloisters with the fan vaulting on the right hand side of the picture. I was very taken with the red medieval glass that was made in a traditional way with bubbles that can be seen. The pink hue coming through is from the colour of the glass as daylight comes through it picking out details in the stone tracery
