A group of guinea fowl is called a 'confusion' and rightly so because, sorry, they are not real bright. However, this mosaic was modeled after the brightly colored Vulturine Guinea Fowl. The cobalt blues caught my attention.
This was a labor of love. It took me almost 18 months to make it, from building the 3-D substrate, body shapes, and feathered wings to final grouting (three different zones, multiple colors). I think I incorporated every mosaic technique that I know into this one. I even used Apoxie Sculpt to make the eyes. Check out my blog to see the progress. The custom frame is by metal artist Victor Quiros.
