Saving Uncle Sam

Saving Uncle Sam

The United States election year 2024 has been especially tumultuous, seemingly an Armageddon-like battle between good and evil. The country is sharply divided with each side feeling they are "good" and the opposition "evil". With the obvious partiality of the Supreme Court, the Congress and many of our media outlets, it seems the only saving grace for Uncle Sam is the people's vote. Voting has always been important, but this season more than ever. While I would like to say that I'm impartial, I too have my strong opinion as can be surmised in this piece. I do believe, however that we all have a voice and it behooves us to use it for good.

I was given this exam table by a local theater company that was clearing out their basement storage and begging someone, anyone to take it off of their hands. My photographer brain was glad to oblige. I didn't know how, but I knew I was going to put it to use. That, dear reader, is how this piece began.

While later watching the news and realizing that our country ("Uncle Sam") is currently very unwell and, in addition, having the medical props and willing models already, AND it being June (shortly before our nation's birthday of July 4th) the story and this piece fell together.

I was honored to have it shown in the Blue Line Arts quadrennial "Politically Charged" exhibition 2024.
