Boer War/South African War medal belonging to Ralph Waldo Ellsworth (1873-1971) of Cooperstown, New York. Ellsworth served in the Spanish American War, then spent time in South Africa as a nurse and ambulance driver. While the British medal is from the Boer War, the ribbon clasp is from the New York National Guard, Spanish American War. The medal was privately engraved.
