Portrait of a man standing next to a table with a kepi and a cane resting on the chair. It is likely that the man is Justin G. Thompson, surgeon from the 77th New York Volunteers out of Chautauqua. The photograph was taken by his brother, Samuel.

Justin Thompson enlisted November 17, 1862 in Albany as an assistant surgeon. He mustered out on June 27, 1865 in Washington, DC. He was promoted to surgeon in December 1864.
