CONCEPT:
In today's world, we are bombarded daily with adverts, signs, price tags, and more. More and more things; more and more text- 'stuff', and the mind is constantly processing...
This is also about standing together, one with another. Individuals supporting one another, or nations supporting each other in strong bonds.
Cement signifies strength, and reminds me of building and upholding - standing strong.
MATERIAL:
Empty cement bags which are synthetic fabric-like material (polypropylene fibres). The artwork armature is made from constructed fibres - carton paper.
Cement is popular for construction, and in Nigeria, the empty bags are often repurposed - re-sewn for another use.
Construction is a key idea in my work.
PROCESS/TECHNIQUE:
Sewing. Construction.
