Pears have such delightful shapes! Their little fat bellies and curving shadows, in this sunlit bowl, were a surprising joy for me to paint. I had no idea I'd like painting pears so much.
The bowl is a lovely, turquoise-y aqua colour, which is a bit brighter in person (if your monitor sees it the same way as mine). I use a lot of phthalo blue (a lovely, vibrant blue with a hint of green, like a deep tropical sea) in my paintings, and sometimes it photographs more easily than others. In this case, I think the bowl and shadows will look even more turquoise in person that what I was able to capture. (But if you look at my other paintings, specificially "River of Light and Shadow" and "Deep Blue Breath," you'll get a better idea of the bowl colour here.)
