I painted this diamond for my sister, a goldsmith and gemologist. The angles and facets were a fun challenge to paint spontaneously, and I rotated the work a few times to double check my placements and tighten up the angles. She reassured me later that real diamonds are cut in a way that's close but not exact. They don't end up being perfect circles, and not all of the corners meet perfectly. Part of the value of a diamond comes from the quality of the cut, a skill that comes from outside of the diamond itself. Her job is so interesting!
