“Queen's Conflict” highlights the difficulties Marie Antoinette faced regarding the conflict between her desire to spend her time at her country retreat, wearing a more relaxed peasant-style of dress, and the necessities of formal dress imposed upon her at an increasingly hostile court. At the base of the piece is an off-white cotton peasant dress, to which ruffles, pleating, and the iconic panniers have been added to create the silhouette reminiscent of the style of dress she would have been required to wear at court. The majority of the piece is comprised of leftover materials from my studio, as well as a pair of old curtains.
