Painting was done Plein Air on a sunny morning after sitting through sunrise in hopes of seeing some Elk. No luck that morning, but I put the cow elk in just before framing, sketched from a game camera photo from the same area of the Clark Fork River Bottom. The Elk looks proud, and I was proud that this was her home, where she could live and be well. In the spring, the elk have their calves here every year since my husband and I have had the pleasure of owning the land.
