"There are so many tiny villages scattered across the Algarve, and many of them have these rows of 'rustic' houses that on first glance appear derelict, but are often still occupied. This was taken from a photograph of a side street in São Bartolomeu de Messines, and I adore the layers of paint and years of history that these buildings proudly display. This painting took many hours of painstaking detailed work to portray the buildings in all their finery - but I hope you agree that I think it was worth the effort!"
