Portfolio Art Show 2025
- April 05, 2025 - April 27, 2025
Art League Rhode Island is pleased to present “Visual Impact,” an exhibition of senior art majors’ work from Rhode Island high schools. These talented students are from JMW School for the Arts, Pawtucket; La Salle Academy, Providence; and Rocky Hill Country Day School, East Greenwich. Their work includes drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media. Their instructors are Daniela Coutcher (La Salle), Meghan Getsinger (Rocky Hill), and Christopher Kane (JMW). The work will be displayed at the Art League RI gallery in Pawtucket, 80 Fountain Street, Suite 107A, from April 5-27. The opening reception is on Saturday, April 5, 5-7 pm
Our Advanced Portfolio Course follows an inquiry-based approach. We structure the curriculum around essential questions, using themes and big ideas to guide student investigations. Rather than focusing on a single medium or technique, students explore ideas, issues, or questions through various media. – Meghan Getsinger
Alongside this exhibition, about 300 Rhode Island students in kindergarten through 12th grade entered the third biennial “Ocean View” student art competition, organized by the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO). All submissions will be displayed at the Art League RI gallery from April 5-27. Three winners from each of the four age divisions will be announced at a ceremony at the gallery on Thursday, April 17, at 3 pm.
The judges were three professional artists recommended by Art League RI: Ruth Clegg,
Janine Wong, and Laurie Kaplowitz.
Clegg’s art, which includes photography, video, printmaking, painting, and collage, is in permanent collections at the Providence Art Club, Bristol Museum of Art, Mystic Museum of Art, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, Care New England, and the Smithsonian Graphic Art Collection. Wong takes a multidisciplinary approach when creating abstract prints, weaving together elements of art, craft, design, and architecture. Kaplowitz uses the human figure to explore nature and existence. Her art has been exhibited in Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Miami, and San Francisco.
Pawtucket artist and Art League RI Elected Member Robert Easton will offer a folded book-making workshop in conjunction with the exhibitions on Wednesday, April 16, from 3-4 pm at the Art League RI. For more information or to sign up email [email protected].
