'ERYTHRINA' is the first painting in the ALETHEA series as well as the first painting the artist painted after the birth of her last child, Gabriella in 1986.
A new depth entered the work, where she intuitively started to employ symbolism.
There is a marked paradigm shift in her approach and technique, with the advent of the layering of images, as well as that of pronounced symbolism and the possibility of multiple interpretations.
The surface has a mild texture to create ‘tooth’ and is also a deliberate but subtle attempt to reconcile or integrate the present moment with the past, as well as the acceptance of our inevitable decay.
An elderly and close friend Bess Diesel, who was also a spiritual mentor, owned it for several years. She insisted on owning it but Aleta would not accept money for it and she reluctantly exchanged it for a Battiss drawing. After Mrs Diesels death, Aleta negotiated with the son and at last got her painting back. She also returned the Battiss to the son of Mrs Diesel.
