Bad Storm is Coming by Alan Powell Image: “A Big Storm is Coming” was initially constructed for constructed for Pop-Up show at an old Hardware Store in Roxbury NY. The show “ New Arrivals in Stock” by the Catskill Ad Hoc Artist collective reflected on the historical references to old tools and the Victorian birth of the hardware store, the beginning of the mass production of tools and furniture. This Ready-made was made from abandoned snow shovels, carriage parts, and table parts found in my barn in the village of Flieschmanns. The piece was constructed to simulate the fire and brimstone preaching of the country preachers during the Victorian times. I felt that we are experiencing these times of rats again with environmental and political crisis upon us. The raised snow shovel warning us to be prepared for an environmental havoc and the carriage functioning as out stretched arms inviting to embrace the coming crisis and doom.
