The Garden of Earthly Delights (Hieronimous Bosch, about 1510) was a triptych depicting Christian mythologies of humankind's fraught relationship with those 'delights'. The painting's antiquity has obscured the intended meaning of Bosch's many symbols.

This painting suggests a variety of psychological patterns; in our journey of self-actualization we often find ourselves 'stuck'; the dream ego grasps for control on the vast ocean of the unconscious; within ourselves we struggle to bring a union of the opposites, to find a dynamic equilibrium; all the while we're growing into a future we couldn't have imagined. If this were your painting what would you say it means to you?

These edge-matched pieces create a recursive world that escapes the canvas yet, in its infinite unfolding, is akin to a fantasy world like Middle Earth in The Lord of the Rings. Details could be added almost indefinitely. Picasso is credited with saying that a painting is never finished, but abandoned. The dream world is never finished, but we wake up.
