From the beginning, I've been inspired to emulate classic masters of realism like Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Caravaggio, as well as modern painters and illustrators like Sargent and Rockwell. Learning outside of academia, I borrowed a classic technique - to copy an original such as this from 1885 by William-Adolphe Bouguereau. The subject's wistful solitude was especially evocative during the pandemic lockdown. If this were your painting, what feeling does she evoke?
