When oil is spilled into the sea, an oily membrane disperses and expands like a thin sheet of elastic, flexible, and resilient material that covers things, acts as a conduit, separates something from something else, accumulates without mixing, sometimes with water, with sand or with a creature. This Crinum Americanum Series is part of CRISOLES, a larger work of art that includes a large format video installation and some narratives in the drawing. In my CRISOLES video installation, I melt two things: the mentioned corrupt membrane, and the fantasy of seeing from a non-human creature. The Crinum Americanum Series was part of my exploration while at the Everglades National Park, when I did experiments with materials and technology in order to approach the concept of Superficial Tension.
