Blooming World was painted on the back porch of the AIRIE residence in March, 2016, inspired by a landscape literally composed of water. I re-imagined boat trips, slogs, and trails in pools of liquid color, yielding unexpected shapes in muted tonalities. A cypress dome bifurcates the horizon line of sea and sky, creating a world within a world, merging ecosystems within watery space. Landscape is felt as well as observed, as in scroll painting. As for the frame, there is a pine wood frame on this work that was handmade by Park Ranger Ted Firkins, making the result collaborative.
