Artist: Xiao Deng (b. 1986)
Deng Xiao is an artist from Shenyang, China. He graduated from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 2012 with a Master’s Degree in oil paintings. Deng specialises in paintings, which he features two distinct artistic styles: Neoclassicism and Surrealism. Neoclassicism focuses on classical beauty influenced by Greek and Roman art and pursues precision, while Surrealism pursues subconscious expressions exploring psychological and social issues. He combines these two styles to create individualistic artworks that examines contrast and fusion between beauty and destruction, classical and modernism, and the value of good and evil. Deng uses contemporary art to challenge traditional aesthetic concepts and standards. Through his works, he challenges the viewers' understanding of beauty, triggering a rethinking of social norms in today’s society.
