Artist: Li Yueling (b. 1971)
Li Yueling is an established artist specialising in Chinese contemporary art, imbuing his creations with genuine emotion, rejecting conventional techniques that emphasise logic and symbols. He advocates for a style characterised by purity and thought-provocation. Li chose children as his major theme, as children are the beginning of life, and also our past, present and future. The sense of values people hold onto derive from childhood, which is when people were free to pursue colourful dreams.
Li's artworks stand out with the unique strong brushwork and features careful details which acquired maturity over the years. The complicated social influence and impact on the children are shown vividly by means of tension, big brushwork and fine composition. The children he paints depict pure and bright eyes, which are not contaminated by secular dust, gazing at the viewers with sincerity.
