This piece represents The Woman’s Era Club, one of the first Black women’s clubs in the United States. Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin founded it in Boston. The women in this club fought for Black rights, women’s rights, equality, and education when many voices were silenced. I painted the women side by side to show their unity and strength. I focused on their eyes with different colors to symbolize how they opened minds and inspired change. The floral background represents both delicacy and strength. It reflects how these women were graceful yet powerful leaders in history.
