This piece has an interesting backstory. It's journey began as an architectural abstract that was not a planned image. I often let the paint and the canvas choose their destiny. It's not always a pleasant outcome to my eye, so I painted over this very unpleasant painting only to discover later that some renowned painter in history had painted an image almost exactly like my original piece on the I canvas. I might even have a photo somewhere. It amazed me that some great painter before me, that I had no previous knowledge of, had painted something so similar to my own freestyled art. I have a few other pieces whose stories mirror this happening. I am awed and baffled by this occurrence. Here I am judging and criticizing my art harshly, when someone of note had walked that path before me. The universe spoke to us both and I wish I could talk to the older artist to hear the story of creation for that piece that so closely resembled mine. I am not displeased with the final image of The Great Cover Up of 2023 but am sad that I lost the original image that created a connection between myself and another artist.
