Pitcher, 6.5 inches tall. Brown transfer. Printed maker's mark for Dunn, Bennett & Co. This pattern features a large songbird on the handle-side left neck of the pitcher. The opposite side of the neck features a sprig of lily-of-the-valley. The body of the pitcher is decorated with a branch with large, veined leaves framed by a variety of flowers and berries.
Dunn, Bennett & Co. was a manufacturer of earthenware and ironstone at a number of sites, originally in Hanley and then, from 1886, in Burslem, Staffordshire. Established in 1876 by William Dunn and his son-in-law William Wood-Bennett. Dunn, Bennett & Co manufactured earthenware and ironstone for both the home and American markets. Around 1908 it was incorporated as a limited company.
