Pitcher, 5 inches tall. Unknown maker. This delightful pattern features a selection of small elves and fairies playing and getting into mischief. The source for these images are Richard Doyle's illustrations from "In Fairy Land: A Series of Pictures from the Elf-World" (1870). Here, one elf plays with a beetle, another jumps a toadstool, a fairy looks as if he's about to pull the antenna of a butterfly, while a different fairy looks as if he's trying to catch a butterfly, and an elf and fairy huddle together mischievously. Two sprays of maidenhair fern fills the empty space on two side of the pitcher.
