Pitcher, 6.25 inches tall. Brown transfer. Maker is Green & Clay. This pattern features clusters of fans and cartouches laid over flowering branches. Handle-side left has a large shield-like cartouche with an image of an eagle flying towards a sunrise/sunset on the horizon. There are also two folding fans that feature butterflies in flight and a geometric pattern consisting of overlapping circles and stylized-flower shapes. A flowering prunus branch is placed behind this grouping. Handle-side right features two folding fans and an uchiwa fan. The folding fans depict slender foliage and a geometric sheet pattern overlaid with chrysanthemum mon respectively. The uchiwa, or fixed fan, features three butterflies in flight. Another flowering prunus branch in addition to a branch of pinnate leaves and grasses are laid behind this grouping.

Green & Clay was an earthenware and china manufacturer at the Stafford Street Works in Longton, Staffordshire, England. The partners were William Green and Alfred John Clay. Previously they had been in partnership with Charles Richard Clark as Green, Clark & Clay. Clark left the partnership in February 1883 and the business continued as Green & Clay. Around 1891 William Green left and Alfred J. Clay continued.
