Collection: Blackhurst & Bourne x
Platter, brown transfer. Printed maker's mark for Blackhurst & Bourne. This Aesthetic pattern features a central motif with three additional motifs spaced around the rim. The central image consists of four decorated cards on a ring tied with a ribbon. The top card features a stalk of bamboo with two songbirds in flight. The three additional images consist of a variety of cartouches. One is a circular cartouche infilled with a geometric design laid beneath a looping ribbon decorated with a triangle border and small, stylized flowers. Another is a circular cartouche featuring a songbird perched on a branch superimposed over two leafy branches with berries. The largest motif features a circular and square cartouche, both infilled with flowers, superimposed over a repeated hexagonal geometric shape with stylized designs, which is in turn superimposed over delicate trailing stems of leaves and flowers.
Formerly Heath & Blackhurst (1859-1879), then Blackhurst & Tunnicliffe (1879), Blackhurst & Bourne operated at the Hadderidge Pottery between 1880 and 1892.
