Compote, 9.5 x 5.5 inches. Brown transfer. Printed maker's mark and impressed caduceus trademark for Powell & Bishop. This pattern features a water scene with a waterlily, pads, and grasses. A large heron stands on the waterlily pads and a frog emerges from the water on the right. The entire scene is framed by a delicate geometric border around the rim.
Founded in 1851 as Livesley, Powell & Co. In 1860 Mr. Livesley left the business, which was renamed Powell & Bishop in 1867. Mr. Frederic Bishop and Mr. James Watson Bishop were the partners.
